Established in 1983 on Bee Caves road in a flooded out strip center. Owner Ronald
Cheng, twenty-five years old and fresh out of UT Austin. With almost half of his
young age devoted to Chinese cuisine he introduced the first fine dining Chinese
restaurant in Austin. Chinatown Restaurant specializes in the four main styles of
regional Chinese cooking—Szechuan, Hunan, Canton and Mandarin.
A first among Chinese restaurants was also the marriage of
fine wines paired with the different food styles.
